Stoic therapy
at Wayfinder.
You cannot choose everything that happens. You can work on how you meet it.
Practical therapy informed by Stoic philosophy, grounded in your needs and the changes you want to make.
Recognize the pattern?
When knowing better does not make doing differently easy.
Maybe you understand what needs to change, but the same reactions keep taking over. You replay an argument, reach for a familiar escape, or spend your energy trying to manage what someone else thinks.
At Wayfinder, we use Stoic ideas to help connect reflection with action. The focus is on understanding your experience, recognizing where you have influence, and practising a response that fits your values.
- “I keep reacting in ways I regret.”
- “I am hard on myself when things go wrong.”
- “I know what matters, but I feel pulled off course.”
- “I spend too much energy on things I cannot control.”

How we bring Stoic ideas into therapy.
We start with a real situation from your life. Together, we look at what happened, the meaning it took on, and the response you want to practise next.
You do not need to feel less to act differently. Therapy makes space for your emotions while building practical ways forward.
Understand what is keeping you stuck.
Notice the thoughts, feelings, habits, and circumstances shaping your reactions.
Find where you have room to act.
Separate what you can influence from what you cannot decide for someone else.
Put your values into practice.
Choose a realistic next step, try it between sessions, and review what helps.
Stoic philosophy informs our perspective. Your therapy plan draws on appropriate clinical approaches, including CBT or DBT skills where useful. It does not ask you to suppress emotions, accept harmful treatment, or handle everything alone.

Questions about Stoic therapy.
You do not need to have the right words.
We can start with what is happening.
What do you mean by Stoic therapy?
At Wayfinder, this means therapy informed by selected Stoic ideas, such as focusing on what you can influence and acting according to your values. It is a perspective within your therapy, rather than a separate clinical treatment or a requirement to adopt a philosophy.
Do I have to be interested in philosophy?
No. We can work with everyday situations and practical questions without philosophical language. Tell us what is useful and what does not connect with you. Your therapy should fit you.
Will I be told to stop feeling things?
No. Emotions are part of the conversation. We want to understand what you are experiencing and help you find ways to respond. Asking for help, grieving, or feeling angry does not mean you are failing at the work.
Can I use this approach for addiction or anxiety?
You can ask about it when seeking support for addiction, anxiety, or relationship difficulties. We will discuss your concerns and an appropriate therapy plan. Stoic ideas may inform that work, alongside practical therapeutic methods; they are not a replacement for assessment or other care you may need.
How do I find a therapist who works this way?
Mention your interest in Stoic ideas when you request a consultation. We can talk about your goals, explain how our clinicians work, and discuss fit and current availability.
What does it cost, and can I use insurance?
Individual therapy is $175 per 50-minute session. Your initial 20-minute consultation is free. Insurance reimbursement depends on your benefits plan and the clinician’s professional designation. Check with your insurer before booking.
