Recognize the pattern?

Something that helped you cope can start holding you back.

Maybe you’re questioning your drinking, worried about your teen, or tired of making the same promise to yourself. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start a conversation.

Addiction therapy is a space to understand the role a substance or behaviour plays in your life and find more useful ways forward.

  • “I keep doing more than I meant to.”
  • “It’s affecting my relationships or responsibilities.”
  • “I use it to get away from how I feel.”
  • “I’m worried about someone I love.”

The Wayfinder approach

How we work with addiction.

Therapy looks beyond the behaviour to what keeps it going. Together, we connect insight with practical steps you can use outside the therapy room.

Informed by Stoic philosophy. Grounded in evidence-based care, including CBT and DBT skills where appropriate.

  1. Make sense of what’s happening.

Explore triggers, emotions, relationships, and the purpose the behaviour has served.

  2. Build tools for difficult moments.

Practice responding to urges, managing distress, and navigating old patterns.

  3. Work toward your goals.

Agree on a direction, review what’s helping, and adjust the plan as your needs change.

Before you reach out

Questions about addiction therapy.

It’s okay to have questions.
We can talk them through.

Do I need to be ready to stop?

No. You can begin by talking about what is happening and what you want to be different. Your goals may involve reducing harm, changing a pattern, or working toward stopping. We’ll explore what fits your situation.

What kinds of addiction can I talk about?

You can reach out about alcohol or other substance use, gambling, and sexual or other compulsive behaviours. A consultation helps us understand your needs and whether our outpatient therapy is an appropriate fit.

Can I get support for someone I love?

Yes. Parents, partners, and family members can seek support for themselves, even if their loved one is not ready for therapy. We can work on boundaries, communication, and your own well-being.

Is addiction therapy virtual?

Wayfinder offers virtual appointments for clients in Toronto and across Ontario. We’ll discuss suitability, privacy, and practical details before you begin.

Can I use my insurance benefits?

Coverage depends on your plan and your clinician’s professional designation. Check with your insurer about coverage for a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist before booking.

What happens after I request a consultation?

We’ll respond within one business day to arrange your free 20-minute consultation. We’ll talk about what you’re looking for, answer questions, and discuss clinician fit and availability.
